Here are a few samples recorded by Ed.
Bluesy.mp3 This sample shows off the Blue Boy Deluxe in a more subtle setting. The guitar used was a Tyler Strat. The amp's a Fender Bassman. Notice the touch sensitivity of the Blue Boy Deluxe. Notice also how it sounds when the volume is wound up just after the 3 minute mark.

 
bbdlx.mp3 Another amazing sample that shows the Blue Boy Deluxe with a fretless guitar (yes, I know,.. amazing! Ed seems to be on the cutting edge when it comes to these unique instruments). The guitar used was a Vigier Fretless. The amp's a THD Plexi. The settings on the pedal were bright 11 o'clock, mid 1 o'clock, tone 9 o'clock, character 9 o'clock, volume 1 o'clock, gain noon.

 
loopjam.mp3 This is a very smooth sounding fusionesque sample recorded with the amazing 'fusion' series guitar made by O'Donnell guitars in Melbourne, Australia. The amp was a THD Flexi.

 

 

Damian Maclennan

Damian very kindly recorded these samples for me to demonstrate some of the features of the Blue Boy Deluxe. They were recorded with Damian's Fender Strat loaded with lace pickups. The amp used was a Bogner Ecstasy 101B (clean channel) with everything flat, and very little volume. The amp was miced with a Shure SM57 and pair of ADK condenser mics, and recorded straight to PC. There's no extra processing.

 
BBD Low Everything 50%, Gain 10%

This sample demonstrates how clean the blue boy deluxe can get. There's just the slightest bit of 'hair' on those chords

 
BBD Medium - Char 0 Everything 50%, Gain 50%, Character 0%

This is a medium gain setting sample, demonstrating both the sound of chords as well as the sound of single note lines. The character is all the way off, producing a classic tight tone.

 
BBD Medium - Char 100 Everything 50%, Gain 50%, Character 100%

This is the same as the previous sample, although this time, the character has been maxed. This shows how powerful this control is for adjusting the feel of the guitar. Notice how much more 'momentum' the tone has. This is a much more authentic recreation of a 'cranked' Fender tone.

 
BBD High Everything 50%, Gain 100%

Despite the fact that the gain is maxed, and the fact that Damian is really hitting those strings quite hard, notice the way that there isn't the same level of compression that you get with regular OD pedals? Also notice that even with the gain maxed, you still get outstanding string definition and tonal differentiation between the bridge and neck pickups? Awesome!

 
BBD Char Everything 50%, Character 0%, then 100%

Once again, this short sample demonstrates the function of the character control. Fatter, more momentum, fuzzier, fuller. No TS clone can do that!

 
BBD Tone Everything 50%, Tone 0%, then 100%

This sample shows off the amazing range of the tone control. Notice how the lows decrease and the highs increase when the tone control is turned up. Also notice that with the tone all the way down, the lows were high enough to clip the input of the sound card.

 
BBD Bright Everything 50%, Bright 0%, then 100%

This control is powerful enough to be used like a traditional tone control. Just set the low/high balance with the tone control and then use the brightness control to set the tone.

 
BBD Mids Everything 50%, Mids 0%, then 100%

The new mid control is a big improvement (in my opinion) on the old voicing control. You can hear just how much 'play' there is in this control. With the mid cranked, you get a bit more mid hump that with a TS type pedal, so if you like mids, you can go nuts with this. With the mids set to the minimum, the tone isn't hollowed out too much.

 
BBD Boost Everything 50%, Volume 100%

This sample demonstrates just how much volume there is on tap. This was recorded with a 9V power supply. With higher voltages, you would get an even bigger volume boost!
